A special birthday cake to celebrate 80 years!

What a special surprise gift this was! A birthday cake from his grandchildren and a lovely dinner at a Greek Restaurant in Melbourne.

The birthday cake was two flavours, one tier of chocolate mud, with a vanilla bean pound cake below. The cakes were covered in white fondant and a band of textured brown fondant was wrapped around the lower portion of each tier.

The 80 was painted gold with edible food colour. The board is black and finished with a gold ribbon, and the lower tier also has a slender red ribbon.

Gold, brown, red and black  were the colours used on the invitation, so I thought it would be nice to incorporate them into the cake design to give the cake a more masculine feel.

The grandad figurine is modelled from a photo I was given by the family. They requested to have him wearing his favourite casual clothes, a pair of black pants and a white v-neck jumper.

The finished cake is simple and stylish. Perfect for a special 80th celebration.

Have a good night,
Melissa
