Jessica makes Apple Crumble Slice for Little Melbourne

Jessica and Dominic both love to bake.
In the Baking with Kids Section of Elegant Cakes and Party Dates, Jessica and Dominic have created:
Dominic can also whip up a pretty impressive Sponge Cake.

Well,  now Jessica has some rather exciting news. Her recipe for Apple Crumble Slice is featured on the Little Melbourne Web site.

1. Wash hands
2. Read through the whole recipe to make sure that you have all the ingredients and equipment.
3. Ask an adult to help you to preheat the oven to 160c with the fan.

The Base
•1 cup plain flour, sifted
•½ cup brown sugar
•½ cup coconut
•125 grams of melted butter
Mix flour, sugar and coconut. Add melted butter.
Line a slice pan with baking paper.
Press the base mixture into the pan and place in preheated oven.
Check after 15 minutes.
The base is ready to take out when it is lightly browned.
Ask an adult to help you take the hot base out of the oven.
Allow the base to cool.

The Filling
•800 gram tin of apple pie filling (or make your own)
•¾ of a cup of cream
•2 medium size eggs
•2 tablespoon of castor sugar
Spoon the tinned apple evenly over the cool base.
Crack the eggs into a bowl.
Add the cream and castor sugar
Mix with a folk until combined.
Spread the egg mixture over the top of the apples.
Ask an Adult to help you place the tray back in the oven for 20 minutes, or until firm.

The Topping
•½ cup plain flour
•½ cup silvered almonds
•1/3 cup brown sugar
•60grams butter, melted
Combine all the ingredients and sprinkle over the top of the baked slice.
Ask an adult to help you place the tray back in the oven until golden brown.
It should take about 20-25 minutes.

If you haven't visited Little Melbourne before. I really suggest you take the time to have a look around. You won't find a better guide on what to do with your little ones, especially with the school holidays approaching.
